My name is Jenifer DeLemont. I am currently a teacher in South Korea. But this blog started long before that, and my journalistic career started even further back in the past. Let me take it from the top: I started out as a local culture enthusiast in Phoenix, Arizona. My friend Carl Jenkins and I loved local Arizona culture, but found it was disorganized. So, we started a magazine called S.L.A.M. (for Support Local Arts & Music.) We paid to print it ourselves (which was expensive), and eventually reached the point where we couldn’t afford the printing. During that time, my fantastic graphic designer David Matteson (who is brilliant and talented) put the whole magazine online, so you can check out on his Web site.
After S.L.A.M. I decided to go to Arizona State University and get a degree in Journalism. I hoped that if I got a degree someone would pay me to write about local culture. While at ASU, I wrote a bit for a magazine called College Affair, as well as a bit for the East Valley Tribune, and I also did a blog for State Press Magazine.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from ASU in December of 2008 with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication. Then I started my very own blog about local arts and culture (mostly in Phoenix), in the hopes that I would open up more discussion about the wonderful world of arts and music in Arizona.
Jobs in Phoenix were scarce, and I didn’t want to be out of work. That is when I decided that as much as I loved my home, it was time to take off for awhile. I have never held still well, and I wanted to see the world. So I got a job teaching English, and I am currently doing that. I live in Suwon, South Korea. I am just a hop-across-the-pond from Japan and China, which is nice. And I plan to do lots of exploring. I’ll put it all up here on my blog.
